japanese father in law: Expectations vs. Reality

by Server

This is my husband’s father in law, we call him japanese father in law because he is the type that has a japanese name and a japanese wife and daughter. He is also the type that really likes me so it is no surprise that we really like him.

Japan is a country where it is common practice to call their father-in-law “father-in-law.” This is one way of saying “My husband and I are the same age and we are both married.” The other way to say it is “My husband and I are the same age and my wife is my daughter.

As you might have guessed, I am not, in fact, the type of person who is called a father in law of a father in law. I am a father in law of a father in law. I am also a father in law of two children with one wife. I’m not even the same age as my daughter in law and I am not married to her. It’s funny how two things that seem so different, yet have so much in common, end up being so similar.

I actually am a father in law to two children with two wives. They are two of the most common things I have to say, but I also say them regularly on this website. The first is to the parents of a father in law. I would say that a good father in law is one who is able to take care of his children, who are often away at college, and who are often separated or divorced.
