A good analogy for this is a state of consciousness. Like the ocean, we can be completely unaware of how many people are in the ocean, but we can easily see the pattern of the ocean’s movements by the way we respond to them. In this case, it’s the way that a group of people react to the same situation. You can see the ocean by the way they react to their surroundings.
The thing about the ocean is that we don’t know what it is, because we don’t know what it is. But we can observe how it moves.
